Iwona Semla – Mezzosoprano

Iwona Semla – mezzo-soprano, graduate of MA studies with honors at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw in the class of dr hab. Magdalena Idzik.

As a student at the university, she performed the part of Arsace from the opera “Semiramide” by G. Rossini, directed by students of the Theater Academy Aleksander Zelwerowicz under the leadership of Maestro Michał Znaniecki.

In April 2022. she was engaged in a project for a vocal ensemble of the Warsaw Chamber Opera, with whom she sang the Passion by st. Jan J. S. Bach in Warsaw and the Musikverein in Vienna.

In August 2021. wrote a project and realized a series of concerts “Letnie Ogrody Muzyczne “within the framework of “Act Locally “of the Żywiec Development Foundation. In the event, she performed as a soloist, inviting other musicians to collaborate as well. In the same year, she received a scholarship from the above-mentioned Foundation.

A graduate of the first-cycle studies at the Academy of Music in Kraków in the class of prof. dr hab. Monika Swarowska-Walawska. While still a student, she did solo part of the alto in W. A. ​​Mozart’s Requiem in the Church of st. Catherine in Krakow with the Krakow Ardente Orchestra.

In the winter semester 2018/2019, she implemented the ERASMUS + program in Escuela Superior de Canto in Madrid under the supervision of prof. Miguel Bernal. In December 2018. She sang a Soloist recital that crowned her studies at the same school.

Former student of the State Secondary Music School Mieczysław Karłowicz in Katowice under the supervision of prof. Justyna Bachowska and prof. Katarzyna Makowska. She sang the solo part of the alto at the Silesian Philharmonic Henryk Mikołaj Górecki as part of the Concert of School Students. She also performed the solo part of the alto in St. Mary’s Church in Katowice as part of the celebration of Saint Cecilia’s feast with the orchestra of the same school.

A graduate of MA studies at the Jagiellonian University in the field of Romance philology: traductology specialty. She completed part of her studies at the Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris III university under the ERASMUS + program. While still being a university student, played two roles in two French-language performances in Teatr Szczęście in Kraków.

She trained her vocal skills under the supervision of professionals such as Ewa Biegas, Cesare Buratti, Ewa Iżykowska-Lipińska, Izabela Kłosińska, Alessandra de Luca, Kate Paterson, Eytan Pessen, Matthias Rexroth, Elias Romero, Sivan Rotem, Martin Vácha.

For several years he has been taking an active part in the Winter Vocal Course in Duszniki-Zdrój.

Passionate about foreign languages: continues to learn Italian and Russian, and is also fluent in English, French, Spanish and German.

In March 2023, she was engaged by the Deutsche Oper Berlin as 2nd alto in E.W. Korngold’s opera “Das Wunder der Heliane”.

Since May 2023 she has been a choir member in Theater Plauen-Zwickau (Saxony, Germany), where she also sings small solo parts. 

In July 2023, she won second prize at the World’s Best Musicians Competition.
